Utley如同平地一声雷般，扬名音乐界！这张97年的同名大碟《Portishead》的碟面设计似乎已经透露出了一点诡异气息！那个站在台阶上的小女孩在暗淡冷凝的仅有的灯光下显得是那么令人惶恐不安！首先给人的感觉是阴森恐怖、鬼影重重，仿佛置身于古老城堡，与幽灵为伴！Beth凄凉哀怨的歌声更是透出丝丝寒意！令人心神不定的黑白恐怖电影感觉的音乐气氛正是大碟的独到特点！
首曲"COWBOYS"加入了JASS味道的节奏，跳动的吉他弦音和凄凉的演唱揭开了整张大碟音乐风格的面纱！"HUMMING"则是大碟中最长的音乐作品，那是不折不扣的恐怖音乐类型，作品中加入了黑暗迷离的音乐元素，飘忽于整首歌曲之间，再配上鬼魅般的演唱！从而塑造出一个令人无限遐想的恐怖电影场景！而专辑中beth孤魂野鬼般的唱腔才更具有深入人心的穿透力，就象"Only
You"中辗转道来的凄美歌声！ 最后一曲"WESTEN EYES"是奇异的恐怖音乐里程的结束曲,优缓的歌声安抚着曾经悬凝的心!
